Barry and Powell in charge at Hampton

First-team coach Paul Barry and veteran defender Darren Powell have been put in charge at Hampton & Richmond Borough.

The pair will share management duties until the end of the season after boss Mark Harper quit on Easter Monday.

Assistant manager Andy Smith and coaches Nigel Edgecombe and Lee Wain have also left the club.

For Powell, 37, it marks his first foray into management after a long professional career which saw him turn out for, among others, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Derby County.

A board spokesperson said: “We trust that supporters will give Paul and Darren their full backing until we are able to confirm a permanent appointment for the forthcoming season.

“The position of first team manager is under active consideration with an encouraging number of applications having already been received. The club will keep supporters advised as soon as we are in a position to make further announcements.”
