Voges confirmed as Rogers’ replacement

Middlesex have confirmed Adam Voges will stand in for skipper Chris Rogers while he is with Australia’s Ashes squad.

Voges was the club’s overseas signing for the Friends Life t20 in June and July but will now also play in four County Championship and four Yorkshire Bank 40 matches.

The 33-year-old has played 43 County Championship matches for Nottinghamshire over the last five seasons and scored a century against Middlesex at Uxbridge last year.

Middlesex director of cricket Angus Fraser said: “Losing Chris Rogers to Australia for the Ashes is a blow but we believe Adam Voges will be an excellent replacement.

“We spoke to Adam during our t20 negotiations about the possibility of him replacing Chris should Australia selection or injury arise.

“Adam was more than happy to fill in and we are delighted to have him on board.”

It will be a busy summer in England for Voges, who is in the Australia squad for the Champions Trophy which takes place just before the t20 campaign.

Neil Dexter, who gave up the four-day captaincy last season, will return as skipper in Rogers’s absence.
