Middlesex 133-8 (20 ov) lost to Sussex 134-3 (15.2 ov) by seven wickets
(Middlesex 0 pts, Sussex 2 pts)
Middlesex suffered a sixth T20 Blast defeat in a row as they failed to muster a total big enough to trouble Sussex at Lord’s.
Paul Stirling (23), Eoin Morgan (27) and James Franklin (26) all made decent starts but Sussex took wickets at the start and middle of the innings to check any progress.
Aside from Stirling’s 23 in 16 balls, which included the only six, the run-rate never looked fast enough with only eight boundaries scored.
Left-arm paceman Tymal Mills took 4-22, including two wickets in the last over, to restrict Middlesex to 133-8.
New Zealand bowler Mitchell McClenaghan, on his Middlesex debut, got Chris Nash early but Sussex blasted 52 runs from the first six overs, surpassing the home side’s tally of fours.
By halfway they were 88-1 but McClenaghan struck twice more, removing Luke Wright (47) and Matt Machan (30), who had put on 75 in 52 balls.
Craig Cachopa (24 not out) and George Bailey (16 not out) finished the job as Sussex won with more than four overs to spare.
