Rossington shines as Panthers crush Kent

Kent 140-6 (20 ov) lost to Middlesex 142-1 (15.4 ov) by 9 wickets

Adam Rossington blasted 74 off just 37 balls as Middlesex Panthers cruised to a comfortable victory at Uxbridge.

The opener smashed 10 fours and four sixes as the hosts scored 102 inside the first 10 overs, before Dawid Malan and Joe Denly completed the job with more than four overs to spare.

Controlled bowling, particularly from Toby Roland-Jones (2-19) and Neil Dexter (1-20), had earlier restricted Kent Spitfires to a below-par 140-6.

The victory puts Panthers second in the t20 South group, although they have played more matches than those below them.

Middlesex won the toss and chose to field and their decision paid off when they sent openers Rob Key and Sam Northeast packing inside the first four overs.

Sam Billings and Darren Stevens put on 45 before the latter was dismissed by Ravi Patel, although the slow left-armer was more costly with the ball than in his last two t20 matches.

Dexter picked up Billings in the next over and Kent stuttered as Panthers put the squeeze on, scoring only two fours and one six in the final eight overs.

Middlesex had no such issues, with Rossington scoring four boundaries in the fifth over and twice launching Matt Coles over the rope.

Malan, the star in the win over Essex at Lord’s on Thursday, was in more of a supporting role this time as Panthers reached 102-0 after 10 overs.

Rossington was bowled by England spinner James Tredwell but Kent weren’t able to use his dismissal as a springboard and Malan and Denly ensured Panthers coasted over the line.
