Middlesex batsman Dawid Malan faces several weeks out after suffering a broken finger on the first day of the new county cricket season.
The 27-year-old was struck on the hand while fielding against Nottinghamshire at Lord’s on Sunday.
Scans revealed a fracture to the fifth metacarpal bone in Malan’s right hand, and he will see a specialist on Monday.
Malan was Middlesex’s second highest run-scorer last season, racking up 1,137 runs in the County Championship.
It is a further injury blow for Middlesex, with close-season signing James Franklin (back) and bowler Toby Roland-Jones (shoulder) missing the Nottinghamshire match.
