Middlesex will lose recently appointed captain Adam Voges for the majority of the 2015 season after he was called up by Australia.
The 35-year-old batsman was signed to cover the absence of previous skipper Chris Rogers, while he too tours the West Indies and England with Australia this summer.
But Voges’s stunning form in Sheffield Shield cricket has also earned him a Test call-up, making him unavailable to Middlesex after the first four County Championship games.
The club confirmed they had drawn up a shortlist of overseas players to potentially replace Voges and would now open discussions with their top targets.
They have already signed New Zealand all-rounder James Franklin and England opener Nick Compton as they look to improve on last season’s seventh place in the Championship.
