Middlesex star gets England call
Middlesex wicket-keeper John Simpson has been named in an England Development XI to play Sri Lanka ‘A’ at Old Trafford next Monday.
The 23-year-old, who played for England U-19s in the 2006 World Cup, gets his chance to impress after Sri Lanka’s original opponents Lancashire pulled out because of Twenty20 commitments.
National performance manager David Graveney said: “We have selected some very promising young cricketers who have impressed in first class cricket this season.
“It provides an important opportunity for these players to impress selectors ahead of selection for the England performance programme this winter.”
