Middlesex beaten in Hampshire run chase
Hampshire 172-3 (20 ov) beat Middlesex 153-6 (20 ov) by 19 runs
(Hampshire 2 pts, Middlesex 0 pts)
Middlesex suffered their second T20 defeat of the season after falling 20 runs short of their target at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton.
Hampshire had been restricted to 97-3 after 15 overs, with Neil Dexter taking two wickets, including that of Michael Carberry (57).
But Owais Shah (58 not out) and Sean Ervine (42 not out) put on 85 in just 44 balls – including 25 off the penultimate over, bowled by Steven Finn – to drag the hosts to a respectable total.
That late blast was to prove the difference between the two sides as Middlesex failed to replicate that sort of hitting until it was too late.
Their chase was undermined by the loss of wickets in the middle overs as several batsmen fell after making decent starts.
James Franklin and John Simpson both hit 31 but Middlesex ended up needing 38 from the final two overs, something which proved beyond them.
