Lasith Malinga’s proposed move to Middlesex has been called off.
The Sri Lankan fast bowler signed contract to play t20 games for the club this summer, but has complained of knee and back problems following the end of his involvement in the Indian Premier League.
And with Sri Lanka facing a busy schedule over the coming months, it has been decided that Malinga will not be coming to London after all.
“Naturally, we are extremely disappointed,” said Middlesex’s managing director of cricket Angus Fraser.
“Everyone at the club was looking forward to working with and watching Lasith play for the Panthers. His presence would have added a healthy dose of star dust to proceedings.
“I totally understand Lasith’s concerns – his workload has been and is high – but am disappointed we are the side to be denied of his services.
“We will do all we can to secure the services of another high-quality international cricketer for our t20 campaign.”
