Hampshire again too strong for Middlesex

Hampshire 199-5 (20 ov) beat Middlesex 178-9 (20 ov) by 21 runs
(Hampshire 2 pts, Middlesex 0 pts)

Middlesex found Hampshire’s batsmen once again too strong as they were beaten by the Royals for the second time in two weeks.

Just as in the 19-run defeat at the Ageas Bowl, it was Michael Carberry and Owais Shah who did most of the damage, putting on 118 for the third wicket in 12 overs.

Carberry carried his bat for 72 not out while Shah made 64 as Hampshire made 199-5 in 20 overs, Kyle Abbott taking two wickets but going for 50 runs.

Middlesex lost Nick Compton and Nick Gubbins in the first two overs of their response but a stand of 88 between Paul Stirling (54 from 27 balls) and John Simpson (35 from 24) underpinned a recovery.

However they both fell within 11 balls of each other midway through the innings and although James Franklin made 35, Hampshire applied the brakes with some tight bowling and prevented momentum by taking regular wickets.
