Gubbins signs ‘dream’ new deal at Middlesex
Middlesex batsman Nick Gubbins has signed an extension to his contract keeping him at the club until the end of 2018.
The 21-year-old opener, born in Richmond but now living in Chelsea, played 19 matches across the three formats this year before injury curtailed his season.
He finished as Middlesex’s second-highest run-scorer in the Royal London One-Day Cup, averaging 56.50, including his maiden hundred, the 141 he hit at Hove against Sussex in August.
Although he averaged only 27 in the Championship, the left-hander is highly-rated at Lord’s.
Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said: “His performances in 2015 merit the extension and, but for an unfortunate injury, he would have played a near full season of county cricket.
“We believe Nick is an exciting talent and we know he has an excellent work ethic. The two qualities give him a great chance of having a long and distinguished career in cricket.”
Gubbins added: “Having represented the club since I was 14 years old, it’s a dream come true to play at Lord’s and call it home.
“I’m loving my time here and look forward to helping the club win lots of trophies in the year to come.”
