Dexter signs up for another year at Lord’s

Former skipper Neil Dexter has agreed a new one-year deal with Middlesex.

The 30-year-old, who gave up the four-day captaincy in 2012 and handed over the short-form reins to Eoin Morgan this year, signed the extension ahead of the club’s final home Championship match with Durham.

Dexter has scored 457 Championship runs this year, at an average of 32.6, and taken 15 wickets at 40 apiece.

He achieved career-best batting and bowling performances in May, taking 6-63 against Lancashire a week before hitting 163 not out against Northamptonshire.

Since joining Middlesex from Kent in 2009, Dexter has played more than 215 games for the club, scoring over 6,600 runs and taking 137 wickets across all competitions.

As skipper, he led the team to the County Championship Division Two title in 2011, before quitting the captaincy to focus on his batting form.

Middlesex managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said: “Neil is the sort of cricketer every club wants on their staff.

“He plays and contributes in all three forms of the game. He has many good years of cricket left in him and I hope those are spent at Middlesex.”
