Middlesex’s Dawid Malan has earned his first call-up to the England T20 squad for next month’s match with Sri Lanka.
The 28-year-old batsman – who is Middlesex’s T20 captain this season – impressed with the England Lions over the winter, scoring three half-centuries in a five-match series against Pakistan A.
He then gave the selectors a further reminder of his talents when he hit 93 from just 48 balls in the opening T20 Blast match against Hampshire last month.
Roehampton-born Malan’s highest score in the format is the 115 not out he struck against Sussex at Hove last May.
He has been named in a 13-man squad for the match against the touring Sri Lankans at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on 5 July.
Malan’s Middlesex colleague Eoin Morgan will captain both the T20 and one-day international sides.
Steven Finn is named in the ODI squad for the five-match series with Sri Lanka, beginning on 21 June.
