Controversy as Middlesex stay on top
Close, day two: Middlesex 499-8 dec v Sussex 147-7
Middlesex 4pts, Sussex 1pt
Middlesex continued to dominate – and controversially removed England’s Matt Prior – on an eventful second day at Lord’s.
Prior was caught low by Sam Robson and was given out despite insisting that the ball had hit the ground.
Earlier, Chris Rogers and Neil Dexter scored centuries for Middlesex, who began the day on 320-3.
Skipper Rogers added 23 to his overnight score to reach 184 and Dexter progressed from 62 to 104 before the hosts declared having reached 499-8.
Prior’s dismissal left Sussex, whose unbeaten record is now under real threat, on 92-5.
After eventually losing Rogers and Dexter, Middlesex continued to score, with a 50 from wicketkeeper John Simpson helping them move close to the 500 mark.
Sussex ended the day trailing by 352 runs and facing the prospect of being made to follow-on on day three.
