Two for Mitrovic as Fulham beat Burnley

Fulham 4 Burnley 2

Two headers in two minutes from Aleksandar Mitrovic set Fulham on their way to a thrilling first win back in the Premier League.

The Serbia international nodded in a hanging cross from Tom Cairney past keeper Joe Hart on 36 minutes and then timed a run to perfection to glance in a tidy angled cross from Luciano Vietto.

A blistering drive from Jean Michael Seri had given Fulham a sensational start to a breathless first half – the Ivory Coast midfielder letting fly from outside the box in the fourth minute for his first goal for the club.

But Jeff Hendrick levelled for Burnley within six minutes, when the Whites were undone by a low Aaron Lennon cross to the far post.

The visitors, just back from a midweek Europa League excursion to Greece, refused to simply fade away after Mitrovic’s double made it 3-1, and former Brentford defender James Tarkowski bundled in from close range just before the break after Ben Mee had leapt highest at a corner.

Andre Schurrle capped a superb performance by rattling in a fourth for Fulham in the 84th minute after a Mitrovic shot had come back off a post, as a visibly tiring Burnley began to wilt.

Fulham: Bettinelli; Fosu-Mensah, Odoi, Le Marchand, Bryan (Chambers 720; MDonald, Seri; Schurrle (Sessegnon 89), Cairney (Anguissa 78), Vietto; Mitrovic.
