Symons wants Fulham manager’s job
Kit Symons wants the Fulham manager’s job on a permanent basis and aims to convince the club he is right man during his spell in caretaker charge.
The Whites’ Under-21 boss took over after Felix Magath was sacked on Thursday, with Fulham bottom of the Championship after failing to win any of their seven league games this season.
Symons, a former Fulham and Wales defender, also works as Wales boss Chris Coleman’s assistant and previously had two spells as caretaker manager of Crystal Palace.
He said: “I want to convince the owner to give me the job full-time. I’ve done the caretaker thing a few times and I’m ready to do it full-time now.
“It’s been a difficult period for the club – there’s no escape from one point from 21. It’s not a great return by any stretch.
“Everybody wants and craves stability and I am here to give that to the club. No one understands the fabric of the club better than me.
“I understand what the fans want, what the people working here want and what the players want.
“I’m really excited and confident we can start moving up the table. I’ve spoken to a couple of the players and they’re incredibly positive about it.
“I’ve got full confidence in the way I train, coach and manage, and these players are going to love it.”
Symons’ team face Blackburn at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
