‘A special place’ – Smith thanks Fulham fans after QPR move
Matt Smith has thanked Fulham fans and described his former club as “a special place” after completing a deadline-day move to QPR.
The 27-year-old striker switched across west London for an initial fee of £500,000 and signed a three-and-a-half year contract at Loftus Road.
Writing on his Twitter account, Smith said: “From the bottom of my heart, a massive thank you to everyone associated with Fulham Football Club – not least you fans, for all your support in what’s been an incredibly enjoyable period of my career.
“I’ll always be especially proud to say that I’ve pulled on the Fulham shirt and wheeled away to celebrate goals in front of the Cottage. It’s a special place.
“I’ve made some amazing friendships at the club, as well as behind the scenes, so wish you and everyone else at FFC nothing but the best for the future.”
Smith had been unable to establish himself as a first-team regular since joining Fulham from Leeds United in 2014.
He made 53 appearances for the Whites, 33 of them as a substitute, and scored nine goals.
