Senderos’ header gives Fulham victory

Fulham 2 Wigan 1

Philippe Senderos’ winner – the defender’s first goal for Fulham – helped Martin Jol’s men come from behind to clinch their third victory in four games.

Relegation-threatened Wigan took the lead 12 minutes into the second half, when Emmerson Boyce fired into the bottom corner.

But Fulham equalised within a minute. Clint Dempsey’s pass found Pavel Pogrebnyak, who turned and belted a left-footed shot beyond keeper Ali Al-Habsi.

It was the Russian striker’s sixth goal for the Whites and he should have had his seventh when he latched onto John Arne Riise’s cross and sent an effort against the underside of the bar.

The ball bounced down and appeared to cross the line, but no goal was awarded.

But there was room for doubt when Senderos headed in Riise’s cross at the near post to give Fulham a deserved victory.
