Rodallega returns to haunt Wigan

Wigan 1 Fulham 2

Hugo Rodallega and Damien Duff secured victory for Fulham at the DW Stadium.

Martin Jol’s side went in front when Rodallega, against his former club, headed home Dimitar Berbatov’s cross on the half-hour mark.

Duff doubled the lead midway through the second half after being set up by Bryan Ruiz.

The Latics made it an anxious finish when Arouna Kone pulled one back at the beginning of injury time.

But Fulham survived the final minutes to record their first away points of the season.

Fulham enjoyed the better of the first half chances, Wigan keeper Ali Al-Habsi keeping out both Rodallega and Berbatov.

And the new-look strike partnership combined for the opener, Berbatov crossing for Rodallega to break the deadlock on his return to the DW.

Wigan rarely troubled keeper Mark Schwarzer in the first half aside from a Jordi Gomez shot which came back off the bar.

They provided more of a threat after the break but Fulham made them pay for their profligacy when Ruiz held off several challenges to tee up Duff, who finished well.

Schwarzer pushed an Ivan Ramis header on to the bar but he was beaten late on when Kone scored on the turn from a corner.

But there was to be no further scares for Fulham, who move into the top four.

Fulham (4-4-2): Schwarzer; Baird, Hughes, Hangeland, Riise; Duff, Sidwell, Kacaniklic, Riether; Berbatov, Rodallega.
Subs: Kelly, Briggs, Kasami, Karagounis, Petric, Ruiz, Stockdale.
