Riether accepts ban and issues apology
Fulham defender Sascha Riether has apologised for his stamp on Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj and accepted a three-match ban.
The German full-back was charged with violent conduct by the Football Association after video evidence showed him kicking out at the United midfielder.
The incident occurred during Fulham’s 3-1 defeat against the champions on Saturday and was not seen by the match officials.
However, Riether decided to come clean and accept his fate.
He wrote on Twitter: “I want to say I am sorry to Adnan Januzaj.
“It was very unlike me and I can only say that frustration got the better of me.
“I also want to apologise to my team-mates, fans and everyone at the club for the ban [which will be] incurred.
“I will accept the consequences of my actions and I hope to put it behind me when I return.
“I want the fans to know that I will be working hard to stay fit and will be ready to continue fighting for the club as soon as I am able.”
Riether is the first player to be charged retrospectively by the FA under a new pilot project.
