Former Fulham man Chris Baird is set to join QPR.
The Northern Ireland international, 31, looks likely to be offered a one-year contract with the option of a further 12 months.
Baird, a free agent after being released by Fulham at the end of last season, trained with his new team-mates on Friday and is expected to formally complete his move next week.
He made more than 100 Premier League starts during a six-year spell at Craven Cottage, having previously played for Southampton.
“He’s a good pro and I like him. He’s a good free transfer,” said Rangers boss Harry Redknapp.
“He can play right-back, left-back, centre-half or in midfield. I’ve always liked him.”
QPR have also made an offer to midfielder Gary O’Neil, who has been training with the club.
The 30-year-old recently left West Ham when his contract expired and previously played under Redknapp at Portsmouth.
“They’re good lads who can come into this division and do well,” Redknapp explained.
“I like Gary. I had him at Portsmouth and he’s a good player, good lad, can play in a few positions and knows what he’s doing.”
