QPR have opened talks with AC Milan over a possible loan move for Adel Taarabt.
A deal would see Taarabt’s season-long loan at Fulham scrapped, with the Italian club paying his wages for the rest of the campaign instead.
Milan were reported to be in discussions with Fulham about a supposed swap involving defender Cristian Zaccardo.
However, any move for Taarabt would be decided not by Fulham, but by Rangers, who own the player.
Fulham want to end his loan spell but are unable to send him back to Loftus Road without QPR’s consent under the terms of the deal agreed between the two clubs in the summer.
He is unlikely to play for the Whites again under boss Rene Meulensteen, while Rangers manager Harry Redknapp has made it clear he will not agree to take him back.
Taarabt has long coveted a switch to AC Milan and a move there would suit both him and Rangers while enabling Fulham to get him off their wage bill.
The 24-year-old is advised by former Rangers boss Mark Hughes’ agent Kia Joorabchian, who has facilitated transfer deals involving a number of QPR players and has a strong relationship with many leading European clubs.
