Old boys return to haunt Fulham

Fulham 0 Tottenham 3

Clint Dempsey enjoyed a winning return to Craven Cottage, where Fulham were firmly beaten by Spurs.

The USA forward was given an inevitably hostile reception, but Moussa Dembele was spared the flack as both contributed to their former side’s second successive home defeat.

After a first-half stalemate, Sandro broke the deadlock with a 35-yard bullet that beat Mark Schwarzer inside the near post.

And then Jermain Defoe fired in two neat finishes in five minutes – the second after latching on to a Dempsey through-ball.

With key players still missing through injury and Brede Hangeland serving the last of a three-match suspension, Whites boss Martin Jol could have done without further injuries.

But he was forced into replacing full-back Sascha Riether with former Spurs man Stephen Kelly early on and Ashkan Dejagah needed lengthy treatment in a scrappy first period.

Sandro’s jaw-dropping strike from distance opened the floodgates on 55 minutes.

Tottenham were ruthless from then on, and Defoe struck after neat work from substitute Gylfi Sigurdsson and then from Dempsey for the second.

Jol’s men have now gone eight games without a victory.

Fulham (4-4-2): Schwarzer; Riether (Kelly 29), Senderos, Hughes, Riise; Frei (Duff 62), Diarra, Sidwell, Dejagah;Berbatov, Petric (Rodellega 79)
Subs not used: Etheridge, Baird, Karagounis, Richardson
