Jokanovic admits Fulham have much to improve

Slavisa Jokanovic believes there is still much room for improvement in his Fulham side as new players brought in over the summer adapt to what he expects.

The Whites showed glimpses of last season’s flowing, rhythmic passing in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with league leaders Cardiff, but they are still rusty and the boss expects to see more progress in the weeks ahead.

He handed a debut to Yohan Mollo, and fellow newcomers Ibrahima Cisse, Oliver Norwood, and Abou Kamara all featured, while Jordan Graham was an unused substitute.

“We showed some improvement, but it’s not enough,” Jokanovic said.

“The room in front of us is big and we are working to try and improve ourselves. On the other side, this is a different season, different people, different elements and we need time for them.

“It takes time for them to adapt and settle and understand what we want when we compete. Today I used Yohan Mollo after [just beginning] training with us. He is fighting well. He settled and played a good match.

“But he definitely – and not only him – need time for working with us and understanding which way we play and how we want to win the games.

“We can be satisfied that we showed some fighting spirit and pushed hard but we weren’t clinical enough, we missed some quality with the last pass and in the last minutes we didn’t manage the situation and made a few mistakes before they scored their goal.”

Cardiff boss Neil Warnock, who has never won Craven Cottage as a manager, said: “Overall, it was a cracking match. I don’t think anybody deserved to lose. We showed good character to get something from the game.”
