New manager Felix Magath says he is “sure” Fulham will stay up and has set a target of six wins from their remaining 12 matches this season.
Fulham are bottom of the Premier League, four points adrift of safety.
But Magath, who won the Bundesliga twice as manager of Bayern Munich and once with Wolfsburg, insists they have what it takes to extend the club’s 13-year stay in the top flight.
“I am sure we will avoid relegation with this team and that is the most important thing,” he said.
“The players are willing to do what is needed. We have a good atmosphere in the club and the team and now we need to stay together, work together and fight together.
“We need six wins from our remaining games. Now is not the time to develop the team, it is only the time to make points.”
Magath replaced outgoing head coach Rene Meulensteen – Fulham’s second managerial change of the season following the sacking of Martin Jol.
But the German, who was handed an 18-month contract last Friday, says he does not care about the turbulence at the club this season and is concentrating purely on the future.
“I am looking forward to working in England for more than a year-and-a-half but now we have got to concentrate on the next 12 games, especially on Saturday against West Brom,” he added.
“I don’t know why we are bottom of the league but I don’t care about the past. I have no influence on it. I am only looking at where we are at the moment and what we can do to improve.”
