Fulham manager Martin Jol has played down the significance of Bobby Zamora’s omission for the Whites’ 2-0 defeat at Swansea.
Zamora’s absence is sure to fuel persistent rumours of a bust-up between the striker and Jol, who recalled Andrew Johnson to the starting line-up.
But Jol insisted: “I don’t have a problem with any player. I made the decision to play Andrew Johnson because he works hard in training.
“The last couple of weeks we played with Moussa Dembele and Bobby up front and I thought it was time to play Johnson again.”
The Dutchman also suggested that Zamora, who was not even among the substitutes at the Liberty Stadium, will soon be recalled.
Fulham play Odense in the Europa League in midweek and cannot select Bryan Ruiz as the Costa Rican is cup-tied having already featured in this season’s tournament for former club FC Twente.
“I need all my players. We have another important game on Wednesday and Bryan Ruiz can’t play in Europe,” said Jol.
“He [Zamora] is probably not the best substitute so I thought it was better to wait for next week and important games coming up. He wants to play for the club.”
