Jol: My future is out of my hands

Fulham boss Martin Jol appeared to accept his future is uncertain in the wake of his struggling side’s 3-0 loss at West Ham – their fifth consecutive defeat.

With both teams’ under-pressure managers needing a victory, the Hammers dominated and the Whites failed to muster a shot on target.

Asked if he believed he would still be in charge for the midweek game against his former club Tottenham, Jol admitted “it’s out of my hands” but insisted he would not quit.

He said: “I’m not someone who would [resign]. I’ve got seven or eight hundred games and I know three points can give you a totally different feeling.”

Some of the visiting fans again chanted for Jol to go and the team’s defensive frailties were evident once more as Fulham struggled to get out of their own half.

West Ham were excellent and their second goal – a simple finish by Carlton Cole after he was found by Stewart Downing’s low cross – underlined their superiority.

Jol conceded: “If you saw the second goal, it was too easy – they got down our left. We lacked physical and mental toughness.

“The last 10 minutes summed everything up. I wanted to sub Kieran Richardson who had a hamstring injury but we couldn’t make the switch.

“We brought on Moussa Dembele and within 30 seconds he pulled his hamstring for the first time in his life.”
