Fulham manager Martin Jol hailed Dimitar Berbatov after the striker’s winner against their former club Tottenham.
Berbatov tapped home a Sascha Riether cross to earn the Whites a shock 1-0 victory at White Hart Lane – having promised his boss that he would deliver.
Jol explained: “Berbatov said to me ‘You have to trust me’ and I thought he was joking but he said it before the match against Stoke and he scored then too.
“The only thing he wants is a day off if he scores so I promise him a day off and he scores! He’s a remarkable boy and a wonderful player.
“He’s a terrific boy if you have a good connection with him. Sometimes he looks like he’s sulking and sometimes his body language isn’t great, but it’s not against his team-mates.
“He is disappointed in himself sometimes and he shows it, but you know he can be a winner and he can decide games for you.
“He has scored 11 goals and he is very important to us, because I can’t imagine the sort of situation we would be in after the departures of some of my players if he wasn’t here.”
