Jol confirms he wants a new keeper

Fulham manager Martin Jol has confirmed the club are looking for a new goalkeeper, as doubts persist over the futures of Mark Schwarzer and David Stockdale.

Veteran Schwarzer, 40, is yet to sign the new contract offered to him in February.

And Stockdale, currently on loan at Hull City, has indicated he does not want to stay at Craven Cottage unless he is being selected.

Jol dismissed reports linking him with a move for Bulgarian international keeper Nikolay Mihaylov, but said: “We are looking for a goalkeeper – I don’t deny that.

“We have made Mark an offer and we are waiting but we haven’t spoken on a regular basis.

“If he accepts, he will stay, but if not we will have to talk to him again.

“I have another young keeper in Neil Etheridge but he should go out on loan and play.

“Stockdale is already on loan but he doesn’t want to be number two so that could be a problem.”

Jol previously expressed interest in FC Twente’s Mihaylov, while a number of other keepers have been monitored.

But the Dutchman insisted: “There is no truth on that particular situation. Last year we made an approach for the player, but not this year.”
