Jokanovic insists Fulham will not change style

Slavisa Jokanovic has vowed not to ditch his team’s sense of adventure in favour of a more cautious approach.

The Whites fell to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace on their return to the Premier League after a four-year absence – picked off by a team looking to stay compact and play on the break.

But the reverse will not persuade the Fulham boss to change the team’s style in the months ahead, even if the demands of the Premier League are bound to test his resolve.

“I believe we can improve, definitely, and we must improve many things, but we showed more or less the style we want to follow,” Jokanovic said.

“We must adapt and have more power and more speed and more quality, as mistakes we made in the past will be more expensive than in the Championship.

“But if you ask me to park the bus and try and finish the game 0-0, I don’t have this quality in my team.

“I always in my life make some kind of risk, but this is what we are doing and I think it is less of a risk [to attack]. We are going to try and follow our style.”

Jokanovic added: “You can feel it’s a different level. It’s a tougher situation for us and a challenge for me personally and for my players and the club. We know it’s not going to be easy.

“We need to build a Premier League team. We are ready for this. We need time to adapt ourselves. I can’t answer how long it will take but we are ready to work hard.”
