Fulham win ‘a big relief’ for manager Jol

Fulham manager Martin Jol described the Capital One Cup win over Everton as “a big relief” for his troubled side.

The Whites have suffered a disappointing start to the Premier League season, leaving them third from bottom, with just four points, and Jol targeted the cup game as a great chance to return to winning ways.

Darren Bent’s second-half strike gave Fulham a 2-1 victory after Dimitar Berbatov had equalised – highlighting the two strikers’ importance to the team.

Jol said: “It is a big relief. Our last win feels like a long time ago and we wanted to get back to winning ways. It’s a good feeling.

“In the second half with Berbatov and Bent you saw there is enough goals in us.

“It’s about the players. When Bent and Berbatov and Adel Taarabt aren’t there then there are not enough goals in us.

“We struggled in previous games without them but they played and Bent came on and scored.”

Jol’s side host newly-promoted Cardiff City on Saturday and the Dutchman believes another victory would kick-start their season.

“Of course it’s about building momentum,” he said.

“If the mentality stays like it is then hopefully we can get back in the other half of the table.”
