Fulham snub QPR’s approach for Johnson

QPR have had an initial approach for striker Andrew Johnson rejected by Fulham.

The 30-year-old’s Craven Cottage contract is due to expire at the end of the season and he has long been earmarked by Rangers as a potential January signing.

But they have failed with their first attempt to capture Johnson, who cost Fulham more than £10m when he arrived from Everton in 2008.

He has been left out of the Whites squad for recent matches, increasing speculation that he is set to leave the club.

Johnson has netted only three league goals this season – all of them coming in Fulham’s 6-0 hammering of QPR in October. He has scored eight times in the Europa League.

The player started his career at Birmingham and played for Crystal Palace before having a two-year spell at Everton prior to his big-money move to west London.

QPR have made enquiries about Johnson in the past but now believe they are well placed to get their man.

Rangers have also expressed an interest in Johnson’s Fulham team-mate Bobby Zamora, whose own future has been in doubt.
