Fulham pick up a point at Aston Villa

Aston Villa 1 Fulham 1

A second-half own goal by Fabian Delph gave Fulham a draw which took them to the 40-point mark.

Charles N’Zogbia’s 55th-minute opener put relegation-threatened Aston Villa in front but Delph put through his own net and then missed a great chance to restore their lead.

Villa deserved the lead given to them when N’Zogbia curled the ball into the top corner following good work from Andreas Weimann.

The home side had gone close when Christian Benteke volleyed over from close range, before N’Zogbia brought a near-post save from Fulham keeper Mark Schwarzer.

But Fulham were a threat on the counter-attack and almost broke the deadlock when Bryan Ruiz slipped the ball through to Dimitar Berbatov, whose low shot struck the post.

Once in front, Villa looked like taking control, but the visitors were gifted an equaliser when Delph headed in Ruiz’s corner despite being under very little pressure

Delph was then culpable at the other end, shooting woefully over after being teed up nicely by Weimann’s low cross.

Fulham: Schwarzer, Riether, Senderos, Hangeland, Richardson (Riise 90), Emanuelson, Enoh, Karagounis (Petric 64), Duff (Manolev 9), Ruiz, Berbatov.
Subs not used: Etheridge, Frimpong, Hughes, Rodallega.
