Fulham’s Kieran Richardson is in line for a return in Saturday’s match at Sunderland after recovering from a calf injury.
The 28-year-old has been sidelined since the 2-0 defeat at Manchester City on 19 January but returned to training last week.
Manager Martin Jol said: “Kieran has been injured but he will be involved in the squad. We will wait and see if he starts or is on the bench.
“I have a few players who can play at left-back but I feel Kieran should be a terrific player in that position – he has got all the qualities to be like John [Arne Riise].”
Midfielder Mahamadou Diarra remains absent with a long-term knee problem but Jol is hopeful he will be fit to return within the next three weeks.
Jol added: “After Diarra’s operation we thought it was better but he felt this aching pain again.”
Winger Kerim Frei has also resumed training but will not feature in the squad at the Stadium of Light as he looks to return to full fitness following a pelvic problem.
Meanwhile, Jol is hopeful captain Brede Hangeland will sign new contract within the next fortnight.
