Fulham 2 Manchester City 2
Fulham climbed off the bottom of the table by storming back from 2-0 down at Craven Cottage.
Danny Murphy’s 76th-minute equaliser completed a remarkable fightback by the Whites, who seemed on course for a thrashing after Sergio Aguero had struck twice for City.
Aguero opened the scoring after being set up by David Silva and netted again only 12 seconds into the second half, gobbling up Edin Dzeko’s flick-on and firing into the bottom corner.
Fulham were given hope when Bobby Zamora finished brilliantly from 15 yards out after Clint Dempsey and Moussa Dembele had linked up well.
And Murphy’s deflected shot rescued a point for Martin Jol’s side, which could get their season going after a disappointing start to the Dutchman’s reign.
Fulham are yet to win in the Premier League under Jol but their third consecutive draw at home will feel nothing like the previous stalemates.
They had struggled to find the net his term whereas high-flying City – and summer signing Aguero in particular – have had no problems scoring.
Aguero’s goals took his tally for the season to eight, and his first of the afternoon came when the £35m capture from Atletico Madrid collected Silva’s pass before calmly slotting past Mark Schwarzer.
Goalkeeper Schwarzer had to produce two good saves to prevent Fulham falling further behind before the break.
He pushed away Gael Glichy’s effort and then tipped over Dzeko’s shot after Silva had pulled the ball back for the Bosnian.
But Schwarzer was left helpless when his defence were caught cold straight after the restart. Glichy’s ball was helped on by Dzeko to Aguero, who made no mistake.
There seemed no chance of Fulham getting back into the game but they conjured up a 55th-minute goal out of nothing, with Zamora rifling in after being found by Dempsey’s pass.
City, who until that point had been comfortable, were then subjected to sustained pressure and were unable to hold out.
Dempsey looked certain to level before being denied by a last-ditch challenge from Micah Richards and City keeper Joe Hart pushed away a goal-bound effort from Dembele.
Hart did even better to keep out Dempsey’s header from substitute Patjim Kasami’s corner, but was beaten when Murphy’s 25-yarder went in after hitting the unfortunate Vincent Kompany.
