Martin Jol defended Fulham’s sale of Bobby Zamora after his team’s toothless display against West Brom.
Jol played without a recognised striker in the 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage, which did little to placate fans unhappy at Zamora’s departure for neighbours QPR.
But the Whites boss insisted Zamora wanted to leave – and the Dutchman also cited injuries to Moussa Dembele and Andrew Johnson as reasons for the stuttering performance against Albion.
Jol is also waiting to give a debut to Russian forward Pavel Pogrebnyak, who moved to Craven Cottage on deadline day.
“It was a decent offer [for Zamora] and we decided to accept it,” said Jol.
“We had to make a decision and it wasn’t something that happened over a couple of days – it was around for months. He wanted the move.
“And the timing was probably ideal because Bobby left and we could get Pavel in.”
