Fulham beaten at Wembley as Kane seals Tottenham victory

Harry Kane scored as Fulham were beaten at Wembley

Tottenham 3 Fulham 1

Second-half goals from Kieran Trippier and Harry Kane halted a valiant Fulham comeback at Wembley to condemn the Whites to back-to-back Premier League defeats.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored his first goal of the season to equalise early in the second half after Tottenham dominated the first period and led through a fine effort from Lucas Moura.

But England international Trippier struck a perfect free-kick from long distance past goalkeeper Fabri, and Kane, who had yet to score in the month of August, made sure of the victory 13 minutes from time.

The visitors, who were back at the national stadium for the second time in three months after winning promotion in the Championship play-off final, were under heavy pressure through much of the first half.

Moura almost opened the scoring early on with a header that was glanced wide from Ben Davies’ fizzed cross, before Kane had a goal disallowed and Christian Eriksen’s free-kick was well save by Fabri.

The Brazilian deservedly broke the deadlock four minutes from the break with a curling effort off the post, but Fulham got on top early in the second half.

Mitrović, who signed permanently for Fulham this summer, nodded in from his knees following a pull-back from Ryan Sessegnon, but should have done better with a skewed effort with the score at 1-1.

And with 15 minutes to go, Trippier made Fulham pay, shortly before Kane cut inside Calum Chambers and slotted home to put Spurs out of reach.
