Aston Villa 1 Fulham 0
An error from David Button led to Fulham being beaten by a late Jonathan Kodjia goal at Villa Park.
With 10 minutes remaining, the Fulham goalkeeper miscontrolled a backpass and gave the ball to Albert Adomah, who crossed for Kodjia to hook in a volley.
Earlier in the second half, Button had tipped over a Jordan Ayew free-kick and after the goal did well to deny Kodjia a second.
Fulham offered little in attack, bar a Sone Aluko shot straight at Pierluigi Gollini late in the first half and a dangerous delivery from the left which the Villa keeper palmed out from underneath his crossbar in the closing minutes.
Villa had enjoyed the majority of the chances in an underwhelming match, with Button making a good early save at his near post to turn behind a fierce Jonathan Kodjia shot.
Fulham could have gone in front just after half-time when a corner narrowly evaded Michael Madl, who seemed to have a tap in at the far post.
Villa looked the more dangerous but the quality of their final pass was lacking, although they were helped by a Fulham defence which time and again put Button under pressure with numerous back passes.
And it was from one of those that the winning goal came, with Button giving the ball away and Villa making him pay.
It should have been 2-0 but Ayew poked a shot wide when racing through on goal and Button also denied a rampaging Kodjia
