McCormack set to return to training – Fulham boss
Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic still wants four or five new players before the transfer window closes – and hopes Ross McCormack will resume training on Monday.
The Whites ended their pre-season campaign with an impressive 3-1 win over Crystal Palace, with two summer signings – Sone Aluko and Floyd Ayite – among the scorers.
But Jokanovic, who has previously said he wants to finish in the top six this season, is not yet done with his team-building.
“We still need more additions,” Jokanovic said.
“If we want to be fighting for a different target than last season we need to improve ourselves. We need to sign four or five players.
“I am very happy with how our team is working in pre-season. These boys are working hard to improve themselves, but it [alone] is not enough. I expect we are going to offer more ambition.”
Jokanovic said striker McCormack, who was the subject of a bid from Norwich, would return from injury this week.
He added: “I didn’t use him in these last few games because he has some physical problems. But I expect he will ready on Monday working with us.”
The Whites boss was pleased with the victory over Palace, which comes just six days before they open their Championship campaign against Newcastle.
However, he warned fans to be patient while he finalises his squad.
Jokanovic said: “I believe my team played an organised game, Crystal Palace made some big mistakes. At the end, I can be satisfied with this test.
“But this is only pre-season. The really important games start next Friday night.
“Generally I believe we are ready for the start, for the first game, but we are not ready for the [whole of the] competition.”
