Mirror say Whites and Palace are chasing Ayew deal
A look at some of the stories in Wednesday’s newspapers…
The Daily Mirror say Fulham are competing with Crystal Palace for the signing of Jordan Ayew and that the forward has failed to report for training at Swansea in an attempt to force a move.
West London Sport revealed two months ago that Fulham wanted Ayew and Calum Chambers, who completed his loan move from Arsenal on Tuesday.
The Mirror quotes Swansea boss Graham Potter as saying: “Jordan has not been here, so that tells you he is not part of what we are trying to do by his own actions.
“It’s really whether we can get a good enough deal for the club, otherwise it’s going to be an interesting time for him. We know the situation and we are trying to find a solution.”
Fulham have offered £8m for Celta Vigo right-back for Hugo Mallo, according to The Times.
Meanwhile, Thibaut Courtois is facing a £200,000 fine from Chelsea after failing to report for training, the Daily Mail reports.
The goalkeeper, who wants to join Real Madrid, has not reported back to Chelsea after his summer break.
The Mail say Courtois earns £100,000 a week at Chelsea and will be fined two weeks’ wages for the absence.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Courtois is confident his actions will succeed in forcing a move to Real.
The Guardian reports that Athletic Bilbao keeper Kepa, who is close to joining Chelsea for £71.5m as Courtois’ replacement, almost signed for Real Madrid in January for just £17.9m.
And the Mirror say Everton believe they can complete a loan deal for Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.
The newspaper say Everton are “increasingly confident” of landing Zouma on a season-long deal.
