Fulham 2 Sunderland 1
Clint Dempsey scored his 23rd goal of the season as Fulham overcame Sunderland at Craven Cottage.
It was a happy return to the dugout for Whites boss Martin Jol, who was back at the helm after missing two matches because of a chest infection.
Dempsey added to his growing reputation by putting his team ahead with a curling free-kick.
Phil Bardsley also hit the net with a spectacular effort, levelling for Sunderland with a blistering first-time shot beyond keeper Mark Schwarzer.
But Fulham hit back only a minute later, when Moussa Dembele’s shot from the edge of the penalty area went in via a deflection off Black Cats defender Michael Turner.
Jack Colback’s goal-line clearance denied Dempsey another goal before Fraizer Campbell missed a chance to equalise for Sunderland when he fired wide from close range.
