Talks between Fulham and Steve Clarke have ended without an agreement being reached.
Fulham, who recently sacked Kit Symons, are keen to install a new head coach by the weekend and were given permission to speak to Reading manager Clarke after talks with ex-Leicester boss Nigel Pearson also stalled.
Clarke, who took over at Reading less than a year ago, spent 11 years as a Chelsea player and later served the club as a coach and assistant manager.
He had an 18-month spell as West Brom manager and has also been assistant boss at Liverpool, Newcastle and West Ham.
