Jokanovic keen to take heat off Sessegnon

Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic said he did not want to pile pressure on Ryan Sessegnon, despite the talented teenager’s injury-time equaliser against Burton.

The 16-year-old turned in another remarkable performance, not only earning the Whites a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night, but by popping up in an attacking role time and time again.

Jokanovic was generally cautious in his praise for Sessegnon, but noted the full-back’s great potential.

“I prefer not to speak so much about him,” said the Whites’ boss.

“We try to protect him – he is only 16 and a few months. Generally, we believe he has a very bright future in front of him.

“We believe actually right now he’s prepared for this level and for Fulham. Always when I give him the chance, he is performing at a good level.”

Jokanovic added it was too early to assess how his new players can do this season with so many new faces bedding in.

“I don’t compare with the past and last season,” he said. “Today I started with Scott Parker and Tom Cairney, but [otherwise] we are a completely new team.

“Some players are only working a few weeks with us and to build something, sometimes you need years.

“We still need to find solutions to be more clinical but at the same time I believe the players who start this year with us are a little bit better”
