Boss Jol wants more from his players

Fulham boss Martin Jol has urged his players not to let their season peter out following the thrilling derby victory against QPR.

The Whites’ 3-2 win left them on 39 points, all but ending any lingering relegation fears, but Jol was reluctant to suggest he could now begin planning for next season.

“It would be a bit arrogant to say that,” he said.

“We thought if we got the points against Spurs we would be safe – and then we saw Wigan and Southampton winning.

“With 36 points we were not safe. With 39, now hopefully we are. But we want to get as high as possible in the league.”

Fulham raced into a three-goal lead against relegation-threatened Rangers, whose fightback left Jol’s men clinging on in the second half.

The Dutchman admitted: “The mistakes they made in the first half, we probably made in the second.

“We started making mistakes in possession and that’s not what you should do. We made it difficult for ourselves.”
