Redknapp pleased with QPR’s defending
Harry Redknapp praised QPR for their defending after their defeat at Stamford Bridge and admitted he had been worried about the threat from Chelsea’s corners.
The Premier League leaders, who ran out 2-1 winners in the west London derby, boast plenty of pace, skill and firepower with the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Diego Costa.
But they are also a physically strong side that pose a major problem for opposing defences at set-pieces.
Redknapp said: “It’s difficult to come here because they have so much talent, so much ability and also so much strength.
“We defended so many corners early on. The one thing I was dreading before the game as much as anything was corner kicks.
“They have so much power in the air. They’ve probably got six people who are fantastic headers of the ball. But we dealt with those corners great.
“Our keeper was excellent today and the two centre-halves defended for their lives.I couldn’t be more pleased with the way we worked.”
Redknapp was also encouraged to see striker Charlie Austin get on the scoresheet again.
Austin’s fifth goal of the season cancelled out Oscar’s opener before Eden Hazard’s disputed penalty won the match for Jose Mourinho’s side.
“It’s good for Charlie to be scoring,” said the Rangers boss.
“He’s on a good run at the moment, scoring some goals, and I was pleased all around.”
