Wolves v QPR player ratings

A Matt Phillips-inspired comeback saw QPR recover from being 2-0 down to clinch their first Championship win of the season. Here’s how we rated the players in their remarkable triumph at Wolves.

Rob Green: 8
Made vital saves and coped much better with the wet conditions than Wolves keeper Emiliano Martinez. This was especially important during a first-half spell when Rangers were 2-0 down and would surely have been finished had they conceded a third.

James Perch: 6
Shaky at times and should have done better in the build-up to the second goal when his weak header fell straight to Kevin McDonald. But he stuck to the task defensively and got forward in the second half.

Grant Hall: 7
Grew in stature after an uncertain start. Can be well pleased with his full league debut for the club.

Nedum Onouha: 8
The Rangers skipper had an excellent game at the back, saving the day with numerous interventions. He was unlucky not to score too.

nedumonuohaChris Ramsey on his centre-backs: “Nedum Onouha was fantastic. Grant Hall has come in for his first start and you wouldn’t believe he’s just a youngster coming in and playing against probably two of the best forwards in the league. He was fantastic.”

Paul Konchesky: 7
Caught out on a couple of occasions but used his experience to tuck in from left-back when needed and offer Rangers vital cover in the middle when Wolves threatened to run riot in the first half.

Matt Phillips: 8
Slightly fortuitous with his two goals but was terrific, serving up a brilliant cross for Charlie Austin to head in Rangers’ first goal before netting twice himself in the second half. A Phillips free-kick also almost let to a goal for Onuoha and his pace and trickery on the flank, as well as his crossing ability, hauled his team back into what had been a one-sided game.

mattphillipsChris Ramsey on Phillips and Austin: “Those two have been very professional considering there’s been speculation over their futures. They’ve trained hard and stuck to the gameplan as much as the other boys.”

Karl Henry: 6
Another player who improved in the second half. Started poorly against his former club but was eventually able to assert himself.

Massimo Luongo: 7
He looks a promising signing by Rangers. The Australian showed a great work-rate as well as ability, causing Wolves more and more problems as the game progressed. Was involved in the build-up to the third goal and might have scored himself with a second-half chance.

Alejandro Faurlin: 6
A hero to many Rangers fans, not just because of his ability but also his fortitude in battling back from a third cruciate injury in as many years. He found the going tough in the early stages of his return to the starting line-up, giving the ball away on occasions and being easily played through as Wolves took control. But as the hosts ran out of ideas, the game became stretched and Rangers began to get the upper hand, Faurlin’s passing ability came to the fore.

Chris Ramsey on Faurlin: “I’m really pleased for him. Ale is someone that people look up to here. His ability to pass the ball is well respected and him as a character is very well respected too.”

Tjaronn Chery: 7
Perhaps not firing on all cylinders yet as he settles into English football, but the Dutchman looks another exciting signing. His ability to find space between midfield and attack was a real problem for Wolves and his deliveries from set-pieces look dangerous too.

Charlie Austin: 8
A fine header for his goal, an admirable work ethic and some important link-up play – Austin was superb after overcoming a frustrating start.
