West Ham v Fulham player ratings

It was a day to forget for Fulham at Upton Park, where new signing Andy Carroll inspired his new team to a 3-0 victory over the Whites. Here’s how we rated the players in their derby defeat to West Ham.

Mark Schwarzer: 7
Left exposed for all three goals and ensured his team didn’t suffer an even bigger defeat by producing a couple of good stops.

Sascha Riether: 5
Out of position too often. Sucked into the middle at the wrong times and on other occasions didn’t cover through the middle when he might have done.

Brede Hangeland: 5
Not a good day for the Fulham skipper but had a tough task against Andy Carroll.

Aaron Hughes: 5
Another player who had a bad time against a physical, direct West Ham side.

John Arne Riise: 5
Had a torrid time down the flank, partly because of an appalling lack of defensive cover from his midfielders.

Steve Sidwell: 6
Was left with much to do in midfield and worked hard. Used the ball well at times too.

Mahamadou Diarra: 4
Very poor defensive display and was at fault for West Ham’s second goal.

Kieran Richardson: 5
Definitely a debut to forget. Sloppy on the ball and generally not at the races before being substituted in the second half.

Damien Duff: 5
Quiet game out on the flank and missed a decent chance to score in the second half.

Mladen Petric: 6
A spectator before being replaced by Dimitar Berbatov at half-time.

Hugo Rodallega: 6
An encouraging display. Looked dangerous when Fulham managed to get him into the game – which wasn’t often – and was unlucky not to score near the end.

Dimitar Berbatov: 6
Came on as half-time substitute with the game effectively already lost. Was involved in some neat link-up play, giving Fulham something to feel optimistic about on a hugely disappointing day.

Alex Kacaniklic: 6
Did quite well after coming off the bench.
