Swansea’s late equaliser denied Chelsea a win that would have taken them back to the top of the Premier League. Here’s how we rated the Blues players in their 1-1 draw at the Liberty Stadium.
Petr Cech: 7
Solid and assured. Was given little chance by Pablo Hernandez’s goal.
Cesar Azpilicueta: 7
Did well against a team that are always a threat in wide areas. A much-needed signing who will give Branislav Ivanovic a chance to play at centre-back.
Branislav Ivanovic: 9
Had a storming match in the centre of defence. Read the game superbly, won everything in the air and was excellent on the ball. A top-class display.
Gary Cahill: 8
Was also outstanding. A great leap that led to Victor Moses’ goal and produced a fine last-ditch challenge to deny Swansea a winner in the dying moments.
Ashley Cole: 7
Gave the ball away carelessly a couple of times but overall did well defensively and going forward.
Oriol Romeu: 5
Had a shocker against Manchester United on Wednesday and struggled again before being taken off.
John Obi Mikel: 7
Did well in midfield. Solid enough to let Chelsea’s attacking players dictate much of the game and then dug in when the going got tough.
Victor Moses: 8
Faces stiff competition for a place but did his chances no harm at all with another really impressive performance. Always a threat, constantly looks to create something and works hard off the ball too. Deserved his goal.
Oscar: 7
Tough away game for a young Brazilian still learning about English football, but he did well. Will become even more effective as he adjusts to the Premier League.
Eden Hazard: 7
Full of trickery and worked hard off the ball too. Juan Mata was missed though.
Fernando Torres: 6
Unlucky not to score during an impressive first half but was quieter after the break.
Ramires: 7
Improved Chelsea’s midfield after being brought on for the second half, just as he did against United in midweek.
