Stoke v Chelsea player ratings
Chelsea’s miserable run continued as the holders were knocked out of the Capital One Cup on penalties. Here’s how we rated the players in the fourth-round tie at Stoke.
Asmir Begovic: 7
Didn’t always look convincing against his former club but produced a fine save to deny Jonathan Walters when called into action late in the first half.
Kurt Zouma: 6
Not comfortable at right-back but did a decent enough job, keeping Marko Arnautović fairly quiet. He got forward when possible too and almost scored with a shot that hit the post.
Gary Cahill: 6
A mixed performance. Put himself in harm’s way to make a number of blocks but gave Walters too much room in the build-up to Stoke’s goal.
John Terry: 7
Could also have done better for that goal, but overall the captain had a good game and his presence has improved Chelsea’s defending in recent matches. At the other end, he found the net with a clever back-heel from Willian’s cross but was denied by an offside flag.
Baba Rahman: 6
Caught out a few times but was mostly solid and has plenty of ability going forward.
John Mikel Obi: 6
Not at his best, but not at his worst. Mikel did a reasonable defensive job in front of the back four despite the odd mistake.
Ramires: 6
Also performed an important role in midfield. Hardworking, as always, but missed a good chance to score.
Willian: 8
A terrific display from the Brazilian, who ran himself into the ground and was creative too. Always a threat for the Blues and his set-piece delivery was an asset.
Oscar: 7
Always lively and would have scored but for a fine save from Jack Butland. Another who worked hard off the ball.
Eden Hazard: 8
His penalty miss was decisive, but his performance during the game was very good. Below par for much of this season, this was more like Hazard at his best; skilful, incisive and difficult to stop.
Diego Costa: 6
Hobbled off just after the half-hour mark having been involved in a physical battle with a Stoke defence that wasn’t giving him any change.
Loic Remy: 7
Did well after coming on, scoring a stoppage-time equaliser and causing Stoke problems with his pace and movement.
Kenedy: 7
Also looked a threat after being brought on and clearly has lots of potential.
Bertrand Traore: 6
Came on as a substitute in the 80th minute and provided some additional energy during extra time.
