Wednesday v QPR player ratings
QPR’s five-game unbeaten run came to an end at Hillsborough. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in their 1-0 defeat.
Alex Smithies: 7
Produced a decent first-half save and his overall display was pretty good. Had little chance for the Wednesday goal.
James Perch: 5
Sloppy, especially in the first half when he gave the ball away and Wednesday might have scored. Another mistake led to another near miss.
Nedum Onuoha: 7
Formed a strong partnership with Steven Caulker at the heart of the Rangers defence and would have equalised but for a fine save.
Steven Caulker: 7
A decent display against a strong Wednesday front line. Won plenty in the air.
Niko Hamalainen: 5
A tough full debut for the young left-back, who was thrown in at the deep end because of injuries to the likes of Joel Lynch and Jake Bidwell. The experienced Barry Bannan predictably caused him problems and although Conor Washington tried to offer him some cover on the left-hand side Hamalainen was badly exposed.
Ariel Borysiuk: 7
A strong performance from the Pole, who stood his ground well in midfield.
Massimo Luongo: 7
Worked hard off the ball and his passing was neat and tidy.
Tjaronn Chery: 6
Not at his best but was still involved in many of Rangers’ best moments. Had a couple of efforts saved and was denied an injury-time equaliser by a goal-line clearance.
Ben Gladwin: 5
A poor display from a player clearly low on confidence. Gave the ball away a number of times and made no impact at all going forward before being taken off in the second half.
Conor Washington: 6
Another frustrating game for the striker, who tried his best in a wide role he clearly isn’t suited to. Was lively around the box, tried to offer some defensive cover and did threaten in spells.
Isrissa Sylla: 6
No goal this time for Rangers’ matchwinner in midweek. Worked hard up front before being substituted.
Sebastian Polter: 6
Made an impression, helping Rangers enjoy a decent spell after his second-half introduction. But there was no real goal threat
